Word pellets in the making and the formation of the ant hill word colony gradually coming together. I have devised a system of production which has increased performance intensely...this is bizarrely fascinating for me!! The ant hill doubled in size in just one day due to this method, image not shown. The ants themselves appear to work in a system as  we are also inclined to in various ways in society....I'm not normally one to consider using 'a system'...prefer to think of myself as being free, impulsive and random. Hmmm......

Working with the clay, which is a very new medium for me, reminded me of

Todays work included the random selection and recording of all the pellets to date with a total of 754, some of which are repeated on numerous occasions according to the process of production.

In the studio!

Production already on the go...many pellets to create before the 17th November. Really looking forward to incorporating video into this work during my time with KARST.


Outside comments are suggesting the work relates to Ai Wei Wei, I perhaps see this only as material being used and the multiplicity...but then I need to research this work further before denying a true connection.

Back to clay pellets for me today, had a really productive day yesterday...havent counted how many words but...A LOT!!

Many photographs to upload and also some video footage which is really exciting me! I am definitely a lover of the unpredicted visual that I capture through my video camera. Unfortunately it is unlikely I will be able to use the video with this current project (due to limitations of electric hook up) but I am hoping to expand through and bring the work into an internal exhibition space, possibly Plymouth's Karst or The Pipe on the Barbican. This would be for 2013.
In the meantime production has also begun on the clay pieces with text..these are now turning out better than the first attempt..the need to be random suits the work far better...I was initially trying to make them all too similar...but as I am using white clay I was finding the pieces were looking like ant grubs...and I don't want people to be removing ant grubs...although this is actually what one colony of woodland ant tends to do to another!
